Well I have been sort of skulking around here for awhile not sure if this was a professional site, a personal site or what.  So I have decided to sort of make it official and say “hello” and welcome to my “sort of personal – sort of professional” site.  The focus here is on Internet stuff that I am interested in – which right now includes WordPress and web marketing.   This is where I can ramble about stuff that I think is good (or lame) and not worry about keeping up appearances too much.  (I will be using my indoor voice on my getlocallygrown.com site.)  This will also be a place where I am not afraid to sound stupid.  Right now I am working through my thoughts right here in real time.  I will probably be wrong about a lot of stuff – but that is how I keep learning (and sort of what you have to do when you are working with a moving target.)

So anyway – welcome and let’s get this thing rejiggered.

This is a group for small business owners who want to stay up to date on how to get the most out of their WordPress powered sites. This group is designed for users who are already up and running already with WordPress but new users or those considering using WordPress as a platform for their website are encouraged to come. This group is all about sharing resources – and with the ever changing landscape of Internet Marketing and WordPress there is ALWAYS something new to learn no matter what your skill or comfort level is.

Some areas that will be covered include:

Creating an engaging customer experience
Useful plugins and tools for site management and promotion
Making your site appealing to search engines
Integrating effectively with social media
When to use pay per click
The ever increasing importance of onsite security

Each meetup will feature at least one presentation with a portion of time at the end being devoted to “burning questions” Q&A and discussion. As this group is still in its infancy, if you have any suggestions please feel free to contact me or (better yet) leave a comment in the discussion area. Stay tuned for the group’s official website launching soon.

On a personal note, as the organizer of this MeetUp there is one thing I really want to emphasize. I don’t want this group to function as a sales vehicle for myself or others who attend. Although I would like to have vendors occasionally drop by if they have something useful to show the group, this group is about sharing resources and not trying to show off how cool we are. I hope that makes sense.
